Kinja'd!!!

... so let’s list what’s currently wrong with our cars. Here’s mine:

- wheel speed sensor causing Christmas tree lights (and loss of TC, ABS)

- something has come loose and is rattling/rubbing around the left-rear wheel or brake

- needs new rear brake pads and discs all around

- new front struts contact the sway bar, so I need to relocate the sway bar or get adjustable links

- front diff is slowly leaking

- engine skid plate is pressed against front diff and needs reshaping and/or spacers

- rust on the rear hatch is getting very worrisome

- a passenger seat belt buckle is broken

- at least one front speaker is dead

- the stitching has started to come out on the driver’s seat

- there’s an exhaust “tick” from a bad gasket (i hope), a hole (maybe) or a cracked manifold (please god, no)

- weeping radiator and a severely corroded power steering feed line, they’re ticking time bombs!

- spare tire wheel is a mess, I could get all the wheels refinished or just buffed and then Plastidipped

- driver side headlight is getting yellow again

That about covers it for the 4Runner. Don’t get me started my wife’s Passat...

I’ll play

Ford:

- exhaust leak... unidentified

- need to grease all 34 grease points under the truck

- slight vibration from... u-joints? under load

- shocks from the Reagan era probably should be replaced

- may need valve adjustment, ticking isn’t getting quieter

- brake master cylinder is weak, soft pedal feel on first stab

- paint peeling off center of hood for no apparent reason

- windshield is badly scratched, probably from ruined wiper blade scraping back and forth across the glass at some unknown time in the past

- feels like it needs a tune-up. Not running 100% when climbing hills

- oil leaks, including possibly rear main seal

- between oil leaks and burning, I’d guess I’m adding a quart every 500 miles

Volvo:

- windshield leaks slightly along the top when it rains hard

- needs tire rotation

- probably due for an oil change (wife has been commuting in it)

- a/c heat exchanger is missing most of its little fins (ignoring this for now)

325 wagon:

- torn CV boot in (left?) front

- broken e-brake cable

- both left side tires leak 2-5psi /day

- a few small spots of body rust... don’t want to open that can of worms

This list would be a LOT longer if we didn’t just sell my wife’s 209k mile X3.

It's the worst-case scenario!

Kinja'd!!! Jason Spears > BJ

- li kely bent wheel, different shops disagree

- slack in drivetrain, mounts, or something that causes front to back slop on acceleration / deceleration

- headliner cloth falling

- front power socket stopped working, fuse is good

- scratches on inside and outside of windshie ld

- slight oil leak around valve cover

- seems to require trans oil changes more often than recommended to maintain good shifting

- brake pulse

- clutch needs replacement “soon ,” still debating whether to wait for failure or be proactive; continued internal debate will inevitably lead to the former

- bumper cover, front of hood, and quarter panels given aero mods by small deer still needs fixing

This is a good exercise. I need to put some dollar values on the stuff I want to fix, especially the clutch, and weigh that against a down payment on a replacement.

MR2:

- Swiss Cheese Roof

-Rear Tyres need replacing (Not got around to refurbing the wheels yet)

- Front Brake squeal (Pads still have plenty of life left)

- Excessive oil consumption is excessive.

- Speakers need replacing

- Generally worn suspension.

- Squeaky Clutch Pedal

Ignis

- Not been driven for a month so the battery might be flat

-Body cladding needs reclipping. Again.

- Needs tyres (Again, waiting to get wheels refurbed)

- Needs a general service.

Both need a good clean inside and out.

I also love lists!

Matrix XRS:

Bearing grumble from one of the engine pulleys, not sure which one.

Irritating chirpy rattle noise from what is either the clutch fork or the throw out bearing

Air bag light is on (again)

Driver’s sun visor is broken off (still)

Headlights are foggy and need a good buffing.

Windshield desperately needs some Rain-X

MR2 SC:

Rust repair

Needs resonator added to exhaust because the new muffler sounds like absolute doo-doo

Needs new LF marker light bulb

FX16 GTS

Need to order another 5-point harness

Need to drain coolant and refill with distilled water for the upcoming HPDE day, replace rad hose while I’m in there

Need to install new-to-me track tires to replace the old R888's

Wife’s Honda Fit

60k service coming up soon - oil change, air filter, cabin filter, gear oil

Needs front brakes as they are starting to judder a bit when warm

Just doing the Prelude since I’m trading the TSX in later this morning:

-front end damage

-rust in the usual places

-power steering pump is making noise

-some play in the shifter

-passenger’s side window motor stopped working

-AC compressor seized (bypassed it)

-3rd gear grind

-catalytic converter no longer works properly, have had a P0420 code for awhile now but have been delaying putting a new exhaust on

-probably more stuff that I don’t remember

Oh no.

- 2 cooling systems in need of a rebuild . The expansion tank on the 330 is starting to weep and the water pump pulley doesn’t look it’s ever been replaced. On the 320 I can hear   air bubbling in the system. It needs a flush at least.
- The ABS module has been dead on the 320 for like three years. N eed to buy and recode a new one.
- Both handbrakes need adjusting
- Engine mounts have perished. Noticeably so on the 320.
- A lumpy idle that I’m hoping is just a vacuum leak and not a sensor
- Window regulators have failed. One interior window switch is broken and annoys me enough to replace it.
- One drinks oil. T he other drinks power steering fluid :I
- At least six shocks need replacing
- The 330 needs  new control arms
- Clear coat on the 320 is start ing to go and the window tint is peeling.
- C ountless more shitty plastic pieces that need replacing

*cracks knuckles*

Oh boy. If we’re going to get into the little things that bug me but don’t really matter...

Starting with actual problems:

1. Broken CV axle. RockA uto parts get here today/tomorrow.

2. At 130k miles, the timing belt has been changed some time in the past, but the water pump is 22 years old.

3. The distributor is going bad. The hall sensor is dead. New dizzy is in my kitchen.

4. When last under the hood, I noticed the struts are floating about a quarter inch off the tower. This is new as of the last week and a half. I’m going to rent a spring compressor and see if I can’t tighten them down.

5. Fuel delivery is intermittently slowing, giving noticable power loss. The sending unit randomly doesn’t work.

6. Brakes are squeaky. I need to do them probably. Will take a look at the fronts when I do both CV axles this weekend.

7. I have a code for manifold absolute pressure. Haven’t researched that at all yet. It’s whatever.

8. Another code for pre-cat O2 sensor. This will never get done.

9. Rust control. Need to wire brush off the rocker panels and anti-rust coat them. A few spots in the door sills too.

And now for the little things.

10. The seats are kind of beat. I had bought seat covers, but they didn’t have head rests. I’m out $8 to send them back to RockAuto.

11. Somebody smoked the tail lights and side markers. I’m not a fan. Paint thinner may do the job.

12. One of the windshield washer thingies blows way off to the side, so the windshield in front of my face is never clean. Whatever.

13. The headlights are garbage. The lenses are new and so are the bulbs, but they’re only as good as they came from the factory, ie, not.

14. The locks. They lock, but don’t really unlock. I may source some manual locks for peace of mind, or modify the existing electric ones.

15. Button on the hatch to open it doesn’t work. Kind of a security feature since that’s where my tools live and I don’t lock it, but if I do the other locks, I’ll retrofit a non-VW part to the spot. This is a known issue with all Golfs.

16. The mounts for the grille are kind of crap. If you hit a bump, it pops out from under the headlight. May source a new one, might just ignore it.

17. The wiring for the fog lamps goes in front of the radiator. I don’t want the plastic to melt and short on the radiator. I will eventually reroute it.

18. The horn sometimes doesn’t.

19. I need new running lights. The one that are on right now are super foggy and overall pretty beat.

20. The radio is garbage. One speaker doesn’t work.

21. Three door speakers have black covers. One has a tan one. Why.

22. The carpet in the hatch area by the tail lights is detached. Nothing a couple self-tappers can’t fix.

This is actually the first time I’ve written out all my issues with this car. It’s... a lot.

Oh yeah, and I need to lube the shifter linkage. 2 sometimes pops out as well. There’s also a really rough idle sometimes. Probably a vaccuum leak somewhere.

My list is tiny but..

1. WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED REALLY BAD

2. IT IS STILL ON THE STOCK SUSPENSION EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE NEW STUFF IN MY GARAGE

3. IT’S BLACK AND ALWAYS DIRTY

4. I DON'T LOVE THE FORD PERFORMANCE TUNE BUT, IT DOES RETAIN MY WARRANTY

65 Tempest: Everything. This car needs everything.

08 9-7x: Oil leak from front of motor, some sort of suspension clunk that I can’t nail down, and several typical GM interior bits that need fixin. I probably won’t fix any of it since this is our “beater” car.

11 Sierra: Needs new shocks all around. I’m just dragging my feet, but it needs to get done this summer yet.

16 SS. Nothing, it’s perfect.

99 F -150

- ABS light is on, I have no idea why

- Brakes seem overly sensitive, but I just replaced basically everything and maybe didn’t realize how horrendously bad they were before?

- the little flap that covers my power outlets is broken and wont stay shut

- parking brake cables are seized and disconnected

- the rust is winning

XJ750

- Randomly leaks gas, I thought I had it fixed but after a couple of weeks it’s leaking again, needs a petcock rebuild

- desperately needs front forks rebuilt

Warrior

- Nothing, the only one of my machines that’s %100, might flush the brake fluid though before I ride to Sturgis

200x

- Starts really hard in the winter time

- Brake fluid reservoir is broken, needs new one

- It’s an old ATV that’s been frankensteined together with parts from a minimum of 4 different machines

XR200R

- Needs new brake adjuster barrel

- Needs tube patched in rear tire (could probably use tires)

- Plastics are severely faded and covered in Plastidip.

ATC90 - Project Status

- Needs all 3 tires tubed

- Needs carb tuning

1950 F3

- Literally everything, its just a rolling shell  at the moment

1985 Nissan 720

- Seized left front brake caliper. Will need to pull it, clean the guide pins and reinstall it. Should take about an hour since I have done this particular job before.

1987 El Camino

- Replacing front and rear springs. Currently has wagon springs in the rear and they are too tall. Front is getting the V6 springs which should give me about a 1" drop up front and 1/2" to 1" in the rear.

- Moving the front wheels to the rear, getting rid of the big rear tires and going with a smaller tire up front. Should bring the whole car down about 2 inches. Current rear tires are 29" tall...

- Need to get it aligned after I replace everything.

- Need to get the AC charged.

- Need to wire the seats through a fuse and switch.

- Need to paint the wheels some color. Either grey or bronze, I think.

- Need to drop the tank and figure out why the fuel sender doesn’t work. Will probably end up pulling it and installing an electric sender since I am going to be doing a custom Speedhut gauge cluster anyway.

- Need to install LED brake light under the tailgate. Currently has a very cheap 3rd brake light in the rear window, but I want something that is even more easily seen. I just picked up well reviewed one from Amazon during Prime Day.

2008 Volvo C30

- Needs rear brake pads and rotors

- Needs the AC charged (this is a yearly thing with this car - the leak can’t be found and eve rything else is in working order - my indy only charges me $120, so I have lived with it).

- Would like to refinish the BBS two piece wheels I have on it. I have 6 of them so I can do two at a time fairly easily.

- Need to start looking for new tires.  Thinking about Nokian zLine A/S which can be had for about $65 each (!) and are well liked in the Volvo world.

05 Mini

Intermittent check engine light and it needs new struts. The cloth on the headliner is coming down.

02 Silverado

You jest but that is one of the things that bugs me the most. For a ‘99 with 210k miles my interior is damn near perfect and I have to look at that every day. There’s a pull it yard a few miles from me, I just haven’t gotten out there to get a new one.

As for the rest of the stuff that’s actually what I’m doing, the 90 should be finished within a week or so, and the XJ750 will be a 10 minute fix once I order the part, same with the 200x. I’m dying to start working on the F3, I just don’t have a place to do it yet.
